Rendering Plastics

Hi Friends, here's a simple sketch to take a break from the Demo Reel. Focused on plastic rendering with this one. Eventually I'll graduate to an object within an environment in order to work on rendering reflections.

Computer back!

Hey all...well as it turns out I went a total of 3 weeks without my computer. Sent the motherboard into ASUS for repair, since it was still under warranty, and that's how long it took. It's good to be back and we're due for another blog update! I've been busy with freelance (prior to the MB dying) and some sketching here and there.
Here's the freelance project complete

Also, Evan just recently finished his film post production for Recoil, and screened at USC. I am very excited and honored to have a film credit under Concept Artists. Check it out!

Hey guys!
I know it's been awhile. Things have been busy and productive around here. I have several new projects I've been working on, some freelance etc. So expect some exciting updates in the not so distant future. This week I'll share with you all a great project I had the opportunity to work on with Matt. I was in charge of modeling the piece of jewelry. A lot of fun, hope you enjoy the video from Machinima!

Hey guys, just a quick one this week. I've uploaded more models to the Turbosquid. When I'm finished I'm hoping to have about 15 total, at least for this initial start. Also, you might notice tabs at the top of the blog now. I'm working on a book list, and a free tutorial section. Check them out!

Ender's Hive-Queen

Hey all,

This week I have a little digital painting to show. I was very inspired after reading the novel "Ender's Game", and have thus painted my own take on the book's alien, the Bugger Queen. Enjoy!

Quick Sketch

Hey all, just a quick update this week to keep things going here on the blog. I've been pretty busy working on models to upload to Turbosquid, among other things, so haven't got a lot of sketching in. The modeling has been a nice departure though, so no complaints :)

So here's the quick sketch and snail study. Check back soon for more modeling!

Somer Moon Album

Hey everyone!
This week I have something a little different to share. Last year my sister finished recording her very own, debut, music record! I was lucky enough to get to design the 6 page digipack album for her, including cover design/photography, plus other fun items inside.

I also designed the first pass for her brand new website. Please take a look, and listen to some free samples of her songs! www.somermoon.com/

We're all excited and very proud of her for this great step in her musical career.

Doh Doh the Dodo

Hey guys! Here's this week's sketch...a study of the Dodo skull from my ref during my Science Center visit.
For this I used a simple round brush for everything, single layer for the skull itself, and no color picking. Really wanted to practice color matching, and thought this would be the prefect subject as it doesn't have too many varying colors.

Hope you all enjoy and thanks for the visit!

Sketches & Sculpture

Hey guys!
This week I have a new sketch I'm working on to show you, along with an update of the illustration that I have been working on of the alien chief. But before that, check out this awesome sculpture my dad got for me. Can you tell what it is? :)

Here's the illustration, still in values stage. I'm still playing with the bottom left and will likely change it.
A couple of other fixes (like the feet, if I can manage to fix them) and I'll be on to more precise lighting and then coloring.

And last but not least, I achieved a fairly decent result working in the perspective. Will likely expand upon this vehicle later.

Boxes

Although I know it doesn't look like it (I'm a little backed up on blog posts), I have been drawing!
Mostly practice stuff, boxes and what not. Here are just some of those items!

First, we have a box man! He's a sad box man.

I've been working attempting to get things I sketch into perspective.
Here's one of those attempts, need a lot more practice.

So I tried something a little simpler and more familiar. I think what
I struggle with most is doing boxes in perspective that are angled up or down or off to one side.
The Beehicle for example starts off with a normal box in perspective (at the front), but then angles
down on the next section, and then up etc etc.

Trying to improve form, somewhat organic.

I like the car...

Values

Gotta have em!

Hey guys, sorry to miss last week! Here's an update for you.
This guy is a work in progress, working on values right now. I'm still trying to figure out how to light it. I know there will be two lights sources, one from the moon and another from the pipe flame. Right now I've just been attempting to get a decent range of values and describe forms. The composition and perspective could be improved. Mostly the water and the foreground is giving me issues I think. Anyways, lots of fun this piece..hope to have updates for it and color later on.

February!

Hey all!
January was a great month of sketching a learning (a lot of sketching even that didn't get posted on the blog for various reasons), and I plan on continuing more of the same for February. This month I'll be working on more complex perspective exercises and value studies. Hope to have some cool things to show you! Thanks as always for watching out for my updates!

Ok..so this week I have a part of my insect and frog studies to show..along with something for fun!
